About Dr. Wood
INFERTILITY • WOMEN'S HEALTH • RELATIONSHIPS
As someone who has personally dealt with infertility, I am well aware of the emotional, physical and financial impact it can have on the lives of individuals and couples. When we encounter unexpected barriers to starting a family, we experience a multitude of emotions ranging from grief, shame, disappointment, sadness and anger. Managing those emotions, while also trying to make informed decisions, can often leave you feeling overwhelmed and “stuck.”
My goal is to provide understanding, comfort and hope to those in various stages of the family planning process. Infertility is an experience, a journey, but doesn't have to define who you are or stop you from enjoying your life. I work collaboratively with clients to help them be present in the moment with their emotions and develop effective coping strategies to deal with the stress of infertility. In my clinical practice, I mostly apply principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) an empirically supported treatment model designed to help individuals develop alternative ways of relating with unpleasant experiences so they can continue moving toward the life they have imagined.
Being a firm believer in the role of mind-body healing in the fertility process, I not only utilize psychological interventions with my clients to manage stress and anxiety, but also encourage the use of adjunctive treatments such as yoga, acupuncture, and meditation to help clients achieve optimal physical and emotional health.
